Independance!
Some 200 years ago we signed a document that allowed us certain liberties and rights. The ability to argue on the internet, for example... That abide to this day. Now, some of these rights and liberties may have become more or less popular over time in political offices and PERHAPS there are some rights and liberties that we don't deserve, or only deserve when someone from some elected party or the other agree that we do. That's really not the point.
What we do have is a constitutional right to blow crap up every July 4th.
Oh, we take this right seriously here at the kingdom. (We still celebrate "Goodbye stupid puritan day" here, afterall.)
Sadly in the state that Skeeve resides in... Personal fireworks are not allowed.
You can't even have snakes... SNAKES.
And the sparklers we can get are LAME.
I honestly believe that our founding fathers would NOT have tolerated this. They would have rebelled, thrown over the corrupt government and risen up agains the tyrany of the bottle rocket manifesto and liberated themselves some damn roman candles!
So, in the spirit of you nations founders I charge you all to have a great weekend, throw something on a grill, eat it, light off some fireworks, or sit and watch the local ones on a blanket in a crowded park with some friends...
Or help me make a run to Ohio....
; )

Return Of The Five
Hey Troopers,
It's been a tough couple of weeks without the Friday Five, hasn't it? Yeah, you know you missed me. I missed you. I missed your beady little eyes, your child-like giggles, and your sloppy tongue kisses. But, now we begin again... what?! What's that you say? Where have I been? What have I been doing? Well... Allow me to tell you.
1. Starting My Own Business - That's right. I'm an entrepen-, a small business owner now. I'm doing large format digital printing for posters, backlit posters, custom cut decals, business cards, stickers, fine art and photography. It's going to be a hoot. Website is coming soon, and I'll update when it's ready.
2. Writing My Novel - When I met Ghost I said I wanted to finish the first draft of my novel by the time I was 25. I am now not 25 and until recently, hadn't written a word. But, these days I'm making good on that daydream. Not finished yet, but I'm going forward and that's something to say.
3. Playing World of Warcraft - Okay, so all my crap isn't noble.
4. Hiding - Wormhorn threatened to eat my penis. So, I figured it was better if I stayed out of sight until that blew over. I heard he ended up eating Zung's penis instead. Smaller meal, but apparently extremely satisfying.
5. Had My Teeth Out - All 4 Wisdom Teeth. Ouch. Took about a week before I could make sense of anything or eat. Might've been a good time to do a five since most of my stuff makes no sense anyway, but alas. Anywho... that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Now go do something with yourself... it's the weekend.

#18: Rising to the Occasion

The advantage to being a snail is obviously the comparative size of cookies.
This strip makes no sense unless you have read #10.

Marching on
8 years and three months ago, sitting in a little coffee shop in Guilderland, Skeeve turned around the claddaugh ring on my finger.
3 years and 9 months ago, we got married.
3 years and one day ago, we had our beautiful, wonderful Tiny Emperor.
1 year, 3 months, and 19 days ago, The Littlest Admiral joined our ranks.
Ten months and ten days ago, we moved into a house.
Every day there's something new, sometimes major, sometimes not, but it all adds up to the life we share - including all of you. Happy Wednesday, everybody!

A word in the long dark time.
Being without internet for the past week I found myself strangely absent from my daily haunts. Without a net and without an agenda... I tried out this "life" thing.
Apparently I have a wife and children. Who knew.
I also have a job that allows me to attend conferences in ritzy hotels in Boston.
They have this thing called Basketball. And some people give parades for it...
Sunburn hurts us. We are not happy.
At some point soon I will have a working laptop for work again. And there will be much rejoicing... Until then... I will be headed back into the darkness. Come join me there sometime... We have cookies.

Rumors of Death have been Greatly Exaggerated
No, Skeeve has not kicked the bucket nor gone traveling with the Timelord. He (and I (and the sproglings)) are in Beautiful and Historic Boston!
His work has sent him here to learn more about bit-and-byte stuff, and I jumped on the opportunity to get back to my roots and spend some time wandering the city I use to spend weekend upon weekend in during my misspent youth. We've got a nice room, with a view of the Pru, the Citgo sign, and the hotel pool. The Tiny Emperor likes staring down from the height of our window and talking about the swimmers.
He calls them "My People." He's really getting into this emperoring thing.
W;'ll be staying in the city through Friday, and then heading to the South Shore this weekend - so any of you TKOPpers who fancy swinging by Casa De La ParentsOfBliss for a pool party? Give us a call, or drop an AIM message. Any of you have met my folks already know that anybody and everybody is welcome.
Today's historical viewing: South Church. Tomorrow's: Boston Common and the Swan Boats. Friday: Can't wait to see!

#16: Surprise!!

This is actually the only Odder than Artifice that Joe hasn't helped out with in some way or another. I have yet to give him credit, but he has been so encouraging and supportive of this project, so I thought this comic would be an appropriate gift.
You can sort of tell how long all of those extras took by the notable absence of details in the set...

Gone, but only forgotten a little
I was talking today with one coworker about another who has to go back to his native country for a couple of years, and has to work remotely. I inquired if it was for the necessity of mandatory military service, but no, it was only a matter of visa requirements.
The conversation reminded me though of a young man I went to high school with. We were in chorus together. He was a year ahead of me. We were both tenors, so we sat together. He had a great voice, but he was also classic grunge slacker layabout - came to rehearsals high more often than not, didn't really have to put any effort into singing his part, and I don't remember a single concert wherein he wasn't drunk before we hit the risers.
He graduated in spring of 1998; he turned 18 that year too, and during the summer of graduation, he'd told me before one rehearsal, he had to go back. Back where, I'd asked? Back to Afghanistan, where his family was from, and where he'd been born. Service in the Afghani army was a requirement to retain his dual citizenship.
I didn't think much of it at the time; I'd barely heard of Afghanistan.
Three years later... well, we all know what happened then, and I was in such a different space, mentally and physically, that I never even thought of him, not even when we began doing pre-emptive strikes and learning a whole new slew of things about the geography of the middle east.
June, 1998; he graduated from high school, and it was the last time I saw him. I hope he's okay.
I hate that I can't remember his name.

Sick.
I'm calling this blog in sick, sorry guys. It would have been a nice tale about how my economic stimulous check came in... And how we ran up to Target in Wilton and got us a big screen teevee. But it has the added punctuation of me spewing in Target's parking lot and running for thier toilet twice, while making the purchase... So for the rest of the night my new Olevia 42 inch 1080p LCD will sit in its box... And so will you.
Night.

Open windows:
Many things have happened on this day, both today and in the past. births and deaths (Eve and Bo)
But now, I want to think a little about this day 18 years ago, when I placed a ring on a girls finger and made sincere promises.
Most folk know that Bliss isn't my first wife. Some of you remember the ex, and that she was even a part of the original TKOP. (Not consistant, but there, especially at every meet.)
Without that relationship, I wouldn't be who I am today. I wouldn't be WHERE I am today.
My Grandmother always said: "Never a door closes, but a window opens." This window suits me in ways that my life before never did. As much misery as that relationships end layed on me, I never let it finish me. I took that event, and changed... Adjusted who I was, and grew and learned from it. I paid karma, and it came back with many rewards in the forms of my professional life, and my Bliss, and the boys.
I don't wish her any ill will. I do not hate her. I had to let her go to find her place in this life... While it hurt at the time, it now proves that it's a good pain.
Onion... You leaving me was one of the best gifts you ever gave me. And I do still love you.
