He wants to REAR your CHILD!
A part of language development that has become increasingly fascinating to me is what a child does or does not pick up, and from where.

The Tiny Emperor today called me a bad duck.* He also has a grasp on the phrase "motivational speaker"**, and over the weekend thanks to movie re-runs on television he learned "No-talent assclown."***

Skeeve and I have been having fun speculating which phrases are really going to stick, and pop up at unexpected times - like kindergarten playtime. Some teacher's aide is going to ask him what he thinks is going to happen to him if he throws a toy, and he's going to respond that they'll behead him, mount his head on a pike, and dance around it singing Hallelujah.****

We are going to get some truly interesting notes sent home, and recalling who catches the blame for which choice phrases is going to be a game rivaled only by the enjoyment I had tonight watching the little guy mimicking Rayman's dances each time I won a minigame in Rayman's Raving Rabbids.

* I have NO idea what this stemmed from, but it was promptly followed with insisting that I not sing.

*** From OfficeSpace; I made sure he pronounced it correctly.
**** This one is all Skeeve.

Taxes are still taxing.
I like to do my taxes as soon as I can.
This process is rather slowed down by companies that don't send out the damn W2's in a timely fashion. I was really hoping that I'd only have to deal with 2 this year... But Noooo. Blisses stupid company had to sell out. Bastards.

So, we have 2 of the 3 and there's now a question as to when we're going to get the W2's for the original company.

So, spending the money, that's easy. In fact... It's already spent. (Damn home ownership)

With the new year comes...
Same old same old.

I've been trying to get some plans in place to update the board, but so far nothing has come together for whatever reason.

So, unpeel the eyeballs. At least for now.

Dinging 27
Another year, another birthday, that's how it goes (Well, unless you're my marketing manager, who is going to be 40 next month, kinda, but actually is only going to be 10, because he was born in a Leap Year on February 29th).

Historically, my birthdays were never any great shakes - coming so close on the heels of The Holiday Season as it does, and also coming the day before my mother's birthday, any sense of spoiling or specialness was hugely diluted. Parties were downplayed or shared, gifts were often an inexpensive afterthought - not that I -need- to be spoiled, but in comparison to my siblings' or friends birthdays, I always kinda felt like I got the shaft.

This pretty much stopped in 2001.

That was when I had my first birthday after meeting Skeeve, and that year and each year since, understanding my dislike of my own birthday, he consistently has gone out of his way to make sure I feel special. This year was no different, as he made an extra trip to make sure I got a cake, and gifted me an adorable little pair of Hoops and Yoyo figurines. A card, a sweet alcoholic drink, and of course a spanking (because what's a birthday without spankings?) - Everything a girl needs to feel like a princess.

And did I mention the kisses. Yeah...

It was a very happy birthday, and I want to thank everybody who made the effort to reach out to me on Monday with happy wishes, be it with a letter, email, lj comment, or what have you. Every wish brought a smile to my face, every wish really did help make it a happy, happy birthday to me.

Keep your eyes peeled tho, long awaited change is rolling for the Kingdom.

Zero's Friday Five
I've done nothing noteworthy for the last few days except sleep and play Super Mario Galaxy. I've got 120 stars with Mario and 9 with Luigi... with Luigi, it is going to take me a while to get those 120 I nabbed with Mario. For those not in the know, the problem with Luigi is that he runs so fast that he can't come to a complete stop right away. This is a problem when it comes to platforming and especially in a game where rule one is "Hey, don't fall off that narrow ledge... or that one... or that one... or that one!" It's a bunch of frustrating fun. But, in noting the difference between Mario and Luigi (ie. runs faster, can't stop on a dime)... I thought, what if you could play as TKOPpers in SMG? How would they control differently?

1. Zero - I might as well make fun of myself first. I'm thinking I run pretty fast, but only in short bursts followed by a 10 minute resting period and a lot of complaining. I also probably don't use traditional attacks in lieu of throwing hookers at Koopa Troopas, and spending some of the later levels trying to look down Princess Peach's dress. End Boss Fight: Challenges Bowser to a "Yo Mama's So..." joke off.

2. Skeeve - Our fearless leader would likely bring a guitar and attack the bad guys El Kabong style with it. He runs okay, but not much of a jumper, and suffers from a drawback that forces him to miss level objectives to chase small children around instead. End Boss Fight: Rock-off against Bowser in Guitar Hero... on easy.

3. Zung - Very hard to play SMG with Zung because he's invisible. It's arguable that you're actually not doing anything at all, because he may or may not even be there. Sure, the game says he's there, but it's impossible to be sure. End Boss Fight: Bowser goes about his normal business until he gets bored waiting for someone to show up and fight him.

4. Bliss - She plays similarly to Skeeve, only she does everything just a little bit better. She runs a little faster, and smacks baddies on the head with a guitar a little bit harder. Problem is, she's even more crippled by the chasing of small children. But, when she catches them, she can ground them (and they LISTEN!), allowing her to finish the level unbothered. End Boss Fight: Rock-off against Bowser in Guitar Hero... on easy, but half way through, she beats him to death with a rolling pin. Bonus Ending: Mushroom Kingdom's first lesbian love scene with Bliss and Princess Peach.

5. Unl33t* - He's super fast, super strong, and doesn't even need to play the game to beat it. Why? Because he's hacked it, smashed it, and basically rewritten the code to his liking. End Boss Fight: Bowser brings the FBI knocking on his front door... poor Unl33t. *After beating the game with Unl33t, you can choose to re-skin his avatar with Wildfire and Wushu skins... the gameplay and ending will be the same.

Now go get yourself some power stars... or a soda. Mmmmm, soda.

Happy New Year!
New Year, New You, New... whatever.

Everything's ticked upward a numerical notch, and as is usual with such a calendar milestone, people everywhere are taking this as a chance to review, to take stock, to decide what they've accomplished and what yet remains, to figure out what they don't like about themselves and change it.

Calm down. It's just a day. Just like yesterday was just a day.

So is tomorrow.
